#7 -- "Pomegranate"

#7 - "Pomegranate"
oil on linen panel, 5X7"

Earlier this week I was visiting my dear friend, MA. She is always encouraging me to paint (falls just short of brandishing a whip!). I had originally planned on painting in her garden, but the weather did not cooperate. Instead I picked up a couple of pomegranates when we were out buying ingredients for dinner. I set up the still life beside one of her windows, and was chasing the late afternoon light as I hurried to complete this little painting. After about an hour I had to stop because I could no longer see the colors I was mixing on my palette.

#6 -- Across the Pumpkin Field

#6 - "Across the Pumpkin Field"
oil on linen panel, 5X7"

This small plein air painting was my second painting of the morning this past Tuesday. While painting the previous painting ( #5 - "In the Pumpkin Patch") my eye kept going across the field to the light on the roof of a small barn. When something keeps catching my eye and imagination I have to paint it. Many times the light on buildings gets better as the morning wears on. About 11:30 the shadow on the roof was just right!

#5 -- In the Pumpkin Patch

#5 -- In the Pumpkin Patch
oil on linen panel, 5X7"

This little plein air painting was done yesterday morning at a beautiful pumpkin farm near Statesville, North Carolina. I was there with several of my fellow POPS (Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society) members. We lucked out that our visit was on an absolutely beautiful early fall day. The workers out in the fields were cutting pumpkins and putting them beside the rows
for pickup later. These beauties were just a few of that day's harvest that sat glowing in the morning sunlight.

#4 -- "At the Edge of the Lane"

"At the Edge of the Lane"

oil on linen panel, 7X5"

I love red barns! For years I have driven past a wonderful old red barn just off highway 65 between Stokesdale and Germanton, North Carolina. This barn has always said to me: "Stop and paint or at least photograph me!".
Finally I did, and discovered another smaller barn at the end of the lane behind it.
Moral of the story ~ you should always stop -- you never know what surprises await you!

#3 -- "Looking Toward Saurtown Mountain"

"Looking Toward Saurtown Mountain"

oil on linen panel, 5X7"

We are so lucky to have the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains about an hour away from our home. This area is one of my favorites to paint, and recently my painting friends from the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society made a trip up here to paint. In this small painting I was interested in all the layers and textures I saw as I looked off toward Saurtown Mountain.

#2 -- September Morning

"September Morning"
oil on linen panel, 5X7"

This little plein air painting was done on a recent Saturday morning while painting with my dear friend Julie. I just love the way sunlight rakes across the top of hay bales -- especially the "real" ones not wrapped in plastic.
Can you believe we can find such a spot in the city limits of Greensboro, North Carolina?

#1 -- A Road Less Traveled

"A Road Less Traveled"

This painting is the perfect beginning. I am starting down a new road with my painting, and seeing what is around the next corner will be interesting and fun.

This little snippet of life is located on a beautiful farm in West Jefferson, North Carolina. I just love old farm roads -- the peace and quiet that surrounds me, and all the colors and textures of the grasses, bushes, and trees. Having the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop is just the icing on the cake!
